For my second stop on Mike’s Polk Food Quest, I visited Lovebirds Almost Famous Chicken in Winter Haven (also has its original location in Lakeland).
If you're new here, the concept is simple: every week I try a local spot, order the most common thing people get, try a few extras, and rank it on taste, value, vibes, and overall.
This week: Chicken.
Which means I ordered a classic chicken sandwich as my main dish.
After sharing our first ever Best Food In Polk article last week (best pizza in Winter Haven last week, and this week was best coffee in Lakeland), I decided to mix it up completely and have the best chicken in Polk County.
How Does This Work?
I order the standard item for that category (for chicken that’s a classic chicken sandwich), plus a few extras so I can get a full feel for the menu.
Then I rank the experience on four things:
Taste |
Value |
Vibes |
Overall
Taste focuses on the standard item.
The rest reflects the entire experience.

Taste: 5/5
Lovebirds is the gold standard across the board, and that has an emphasis on taste.
I've mentioned my picky-eater step father in other articles.
He basically lives on chicken and mashed potatoes (not literally, but also not *that* much of an exaggeration).
And when I brought him to Lovebird he said:
"This is the best chicken I've ever had in my life."
That said, the taste section itself is based purely on the standard item for each category — and for chicken that means a standard chicken sandwich.
I ordered The G.O.A.T., which is a chicken sandwich + Duke's mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and dill pickle.
Easily a 5/5.
I would give it a 6 if I could.
And, for those of you who are curious, I'd give the whole menu (I've tried it all) a 5/5 as well.
Value: 5/5
One thing I'm always worried about is going out and getting a "regular" lunch (let's call that a sandwich and fries, for example) and still being hungry after I eat it.
Well, a chicken sandwich at Lovebirds will fill you up, and you can tack on fries with the $8-9 sandwich for $2.95.
We ordered wayyyyy too much food and still only spend $40.
The value is definitely there, and you don't leave hungry, but not so much that I'm blown away by the pricing. Still adds up pretty quickly.
If you missed it above, here's what we ordered:
- What I ordered: G.O.A.T Chicken Sandwich, French Fries, Apple Cobbler, Jalapeno Bacon Cream Corn
- Extra Order (Wife/Katie's Order): Nashville Chicken
Lovebirds is getting a 5/5 for Value as well.

Vibes: 5/5
My brother and I have a restaurant service coaching company that has helped restaurants all over the world level up their service.
And restaurants need to take notes from Lovebirds.
Their hiring and training must be great because the experience AND vibes are a 5/5.
The brand itself (if it wasn't obvious) makes for a 5/5 alone, but then the service just takes that to another level as well.
Not much more to say than the service is amazing, the branding is better than most places you'll go, and the place is always extremely clean.
Doesn't get much better than that.
Overall: 5/5*
As I stated at the top of the article: Lovebirds is the gold standard.
This is not a sit down, fine-dining, fancy restaurant.
This is one of the best quick-service restaurants you will walk into, though.
(Which is my preference, by the way).
If I need to recommend someone in Polk County somewhere to go for a quick bite — I ALWAYS recommend Lovebird Almost Famous Chicken.
The fact that they have a location in both Winter Haven AND Lakeland is just a nice bonus.
