New Freestanding ER Coming To North Lakeland On Hwy 98
Lakeland Regional Health is building a freestanding emergency department in North Lakeland.
The Polk Squeeze found a building permit filed with Polk County for a new ground-up freestanding ER at 6625 N Hwy 98. The project will total 14,488 square feet, built on the old Badcock Furniture site at the Marcum Rd intersection.
The permit description lays out the full build.
Adult and pediatric waiting areas. A triage room. Fifteen exam rooms, including a trauma room, an isolation room, and a room built for a person of size. A central nurse station. An imaging department with CT and general radiology. A lab.

The application is still in the early stages, listed as Application Received with the county. Construction hasn't started yet.
LRH has announced three freestanding ERs total.
The first opened in March 2025 at 6150 S Florida Ave.
Two more, Winter Haven and North Lakeland, were announced together in April, targeting mid-2027 and early 2028.
Of those two, North Lakeland is the only one with a permit filed so far, so it may end up opening before Winter Haven despite being announced second.
No opening date has been announced for the North Lakeland location specifically.
We found this by monitoring Polk County's public permit portal.
