For our thirteenth stop on our Polk Food Quest, we visited Savage Taco in Winter Haven.
This is there new location, which just opened April 25th, 2026 after starting as a food truck (and still being one of our top food truck picks).
We actually just featured their truck on our list of The Best Tacos In Lakeland for our Best Food In Polk, and I'm sure we'll see them at the top of the list when we do Winter Haven soon as well.
We had my brother and Polk Squeeze Community Partnerships Manager with us for this one, so we were able to try a little bit of everything.
And guess what...
We have been back multiple times since!
By the way: if you're new here, the concept of my Polk Food Quest is simple: every week I try a local spot, order the most common thing people get, try a few extras, and rank it on taste, value, vibes, and overall.
This week: Street Tacos!
Which means we ordered a 3 tacos (one chicken, one steak, one carnitas), a Jamaican jerk chicken burrito, a steak burrito and chicken quesadilla.
Without spoiling anything in the full review I'll just lead with this: I know Polk County loves their tacos, and this is by far our top recommendation if you're in need of a spot to grab tacos, burritos, or an awesome quesadilla.
How Does This Work?
I order the standard item for that category (for tacos that means street tacos), plus a few extras so I can get a full feel for the menu.
Then I rank the experience on four things:
Taste |
Value |
Vibes |
Overall
Taste focuses on the standard item.
The rest reflects the entire experience.

Taste: 5/5
Savage Tacos are our favorite tacos in Polk County.
The rest of the taco shops will have to try to step it up and take them down if they want the title, because Savage is currently the King of Polk tacos.
Oh, and the burritos are also out of this world, so the other spots are going to have their work cut out for them.
Here's a quick breakdown for my quick scanners, though:
- Street Tacos: We tried one of every single taco (we even went back to try their Al Pastor taco because they were out when we first went) and every single one was incredible. And these aren't small tacos. These are LOADED up with the goods.
- The Burritos: We tried both the Jamaican Jerk burrito, which was a weekly special, and a steak burrito and you can't go wrong with either. I left trusting any weekly recommendation they have going and eager to see what they come up with.
- Chicken Quesadilla: Katie is extremely picky when it comes to her quesadillas; but Savage Tacos passed the test with flying colors.
If you're in Winter Haven looking for tacos, DEFINITELY stop by and support Savage Tacos at their new location.
Value: 5/5
Savage Tacos doesn't immediately come in with the *cheapest prices* around town — but where they do win?...
Their food is LOADED UP.
You're not getting small tacos that take half a dozen to fill you up.
You're getting massive tacos that slow you down after one.
One thing I've seen more and more of is the need to spend $20+ just to get enough food to fill you up.
That's not the case at Savage Tacos.
Their tacos are loaded up, their burritos are massive, and their menu is priced perfectly to match the fact that you're getting a ton of some of the best tasting food in Polk.
Tack that on the weekly specials and awesome Taco Tuesday deals and Savage Tacos gets an easy 5/5 for value.

Vibes: 5/5
Not only is Savage Tacos new locations extremely well done, but the owners are some of the nicest people you'll meet.
In our "Vibes" section we're scoring the location and the service, and Savage Tacos easily runs away with this one as well.
If you stop by to show support to this up-and-coming small business, I'm sure you'll get the honor of meeting Daniel and/or Lillian and get to experience the same hospitality we did.
The store is kept clean, it's brand new in an easy to access location off of Havendale Blvd, and the company is great.
Another easy 5/5.
Overall: 5/5
Overall Savage Tacos is coming in with a 5/5 all around.
There wasn't a single mark missed for us, with the food, hospitality, and location all easily leaving their mark.
If you missed me say it: we have been back multiple times since our first visit just a couple weeks ago...
This is definitely a new go-to spot for Katie, Ryan and I; and we're very glad to be within 10 minutes.
Would I bring my visiting family there?
It'll be one of our first spots when my family visits and gets in the car to go to some of our favorite spots from our Polk Food Quest.
Here’s how I’d sum up Savage Tacos:
The tacos are loaded, the burritos are massive, and the owners make you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in. This is the kind of place that starts as a food truck dream and earns its brick-and-mortar through pure quality; and Savage Tacos has done exactly that.
If you're in Winter Haven and you haven't been yet, you're leaving value on the table. And if you have been ... you already know why we keep going back.
